Our Company Alumni

Gwinnett Ballet Theatre has produced many dancers who are now performing in professional companies across the country. Likewise, many of our alumni are continuing to dance while they attend college. Here are some of our most recent alumni:

Alessandra Ball

Ball

Alessandra graduated from GBT in 2001. That summer, Alessandra won the Bronze Medal the Grishko Prize for Charm and Elegance at the Premio Roma competition in Rome, Italy. To begin her professional career, Alessandra joined Colorado Ballet and then the North Carolina Dance Theatre. In 2005 she was a recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award. Her career at NCDT led to her become soloist and then one of their Principal Dancers in the 2007-2008 Season. In the summer of 2008, Alessandra left the USA to dance with the Victor Ullarte Ballet in Madrid, Spain. She has performed with this company in Cairo, Egypt and in Italy, where she danced the lead role in the ballet “Coppelia.”

Jessica Collado

Collado

Jessica graduated from GBT in 2003. She became a member of Houston Ballet II and a student at Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy where upon graduation in the Spring of 2004 she won the Michael Wasmund Memorial Award. She became corp de ballet with Houston in 2005, and she continues to dance many soloist roles. Some of these roles include the rooster girl in Christopher Bruce's “Rooster,” and the red girl in Stanton Welch's “Maninyas.” She also performed the roles of Suzuki in Stanton Welch's “Madame Butterfly,” the lead purple girl in Stanton Welch's “Red Earth” and Summer in Stanton Welch's “Four Seasons.” Ms. Collado was featured in “Forgotten Land,” “Svadebka,” and “Petit Mort” by Jiri Kylian, as well as “Hush” and “Sergeant Early's Dreams” by Christopher Bruce. She performed in Hans Van Manen's “Five Tangos,” William Forsyth's “In the Middle Somewhat Elevated,” and Brian Enos's “Dark and Lovely Mmm... “ Most recently, Ms. Collado performed the role of Effie in “La Sylphide.”

Robert Dekkers

Dekkers

Robert graduated from GBT in 2002 and went directly into the ranks of Arizona Ballet. There he has performed works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Ib Anderson, Marius Petipa, Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor, Julia Adam and August Bournonville. In 2008, he added performing as a part of ODC Dance Company in San Francisco where he has performed works by directors/choreographers KT Nelson and Brenda Way Robert has also enjoyed much success with his choreography. In 2008 Robert was invited to bring Ballet Arizona dancers to perform "Toccare" in NYC at Ballet Builders Choreographic Showcase, which the NY Times declared was "intelligent and packed with technical challenges for the skillful performers." Also in 2008, Robert created "AnOther" for NovaBallet, which the Arizona Republic called "the artistic highlight of the program... it was dance of a high order, and we want more." Several other of his works, created from 2002-2008, have been performed at various Regional Dance America Festivals, many on the gala evenings, include "Toccare," "Finlandia," "Believe," and "Four Dimensional."

Geret Erwin

Erwin

Garet graduated from GBT in 2008. She attended the Milwaukee Ballet’s summer intensive on scholarship and was invited to remain as a part of the company’s trainee program. Garet performed with Milwaukee Ballet as one of Carrabosse’s three attendants in “Sleeping Beauty” and will perform in the corp de ballet in their “Nutcracker” in Snow and several other character roles.

Whitney Sue Jones

Jones

Whitney Sue Jones graduated from GBT in 2006 and continued to dance with the company for another year. During the 2007-8 season, Whitney Sue danced with the North Carolina Dance Theatre as an apprentice. In the summer of 2008, she decided to continue training and dancing with NCDT in their Professional Certificate Program while finishing her college degree with UNC Charlotte.Whitney Sue will earn a “Professional Training Certificate in Dance” while she performs each semester with NCDT and/or the UNC Charlotte Dance Department. She most recently performed in the UNC Charlotte Fall Dance Concert dancing "The Waiting Room" from the Sal Aiello Trust restaged by Mia Cunningham of NCDT.

Margaret Hannah

Margaret graduated from GBT in 2001. She currently performs both corp and soloist roles with Ballet Theatre of Maryland. She recently danced the lead role in the ballet “Cinderella.”

Emily Oppelet

Oppelet

Emily graduated from GBT in 2006. She is currently an apprentice at Ballet Theatre of Maryland where she has had the opportunity to perform demi-soloist roles, such as a Winter Fairy in "Cinderella" and Arabian in "Nutcracker." She is also continuing her education through the University of Cincinnati where she is working on her BFA in Ballet and qualifications to apply for a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. Last year she was a member of Dayton Ballet II where she performed corps roles with the company.

Sabrina Sandoval

Sandoval

Sabrina graduated from GBT in 2008. She is attending Atlanta Ballet as a student, and she is enrolled as a full time student at Georgia State University. As a member of Atlanta Ballet’s pre-pro division, she has been given opportunities to dance with the corp de ballet in Swan Lake and the Nutcracker.

Lauren Ring

Ring

Lauren Ring graduated from GBT in 2008 and is now attending Point Park University as a dance major. In the Conservatory of Performing Arts program, Lauren plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in ballet. She has received a Community Service Scholarship, an Academic Scholarship, and the highest Dance Scholarship the conservatory offers. This fall, Lauren was among the few freshmen to be a part of the Student Choreography Performance as well as be casted in a production entitled Bridgeworks.

Colleen Saul

Saul

Colleen graduated from GBT in 2008. She was accepted as a jazz major into the conservatory at Point Park University. She received scholarships based on talent, academics and leadership. She loves it in Pittsburgh and finds the level of dance very challenging. She plans to start coursework to minor in musical theatre her sophomore year.
